形態特徵

Evergreen trees, about 20 m high; trunk straight, 0.7 m across; branchlets with numerous lenticels; young leaves brownish, pubescent beneath.
Leaves ovate-oblong, 4.5–10 cm long, 1.8–3.8 cm wide, caudate at apex, entire or dentate-serrate toward apex, glabrous, brown–tinged and purple beneath, lateral veins 6–9 pairs; petioles 0.8–1.5 cm long. Staminate inflorescence 5–7 cm long; staminate flowers 3.5–4 mm long, 2–2.3 mm across; perianth 6-parted, 1.5–2 mm long, 2–2.3 mm wide, glabrous outside, hairy inside; stamens 12, filaments 3.5 mm long, glabrous, anthers 0.4 mm long, 0.2 mm wide, longitudinally dehiscent.
Pistillate inflorescence 7–8.5 cm long, involucre containing 1 flower; pistillate flowers 1 mm long, 0.8 mm across; perianth 5–6-lobed, glabrous outside, tomentose inside; ovary with 3 styles, stigmas pointed.
Fruits conical, 1.3–1.8 cm long, 1–1.4 cm wide; cupules splitting when ripe, tuberculate-spined and tomentose above, spines very short, 1–1.5 mm long;nut 1 in each cupule, ovoid, 1.3 cm long, 1.1 cm across.

Staminate flowers blooming from March to May; fruits maturing from October to December.

分布

台灣 : in forests at high altitudes throughout the island, rarely descending to low altitudes at both ends of the island, such as Aoti on the north and Hengchun Peninsula on the south end.
世界 : Distributed in mainland China (SE, S to SW) and Hong Kong.
